Biogas and biomethane: presenting our solution at Spain’s most important bioenergy congress
Water Challenge took part in the 18th International Bioenergy Congress and the 5th Renewable Gas Trade Fair, recently held in Valladolid. This event, considered the leading forum for the sector in Spain, brought together key players from the energy, industrial, and agri-food sectors to discuss the current landscape and future prospects of bioenergy as a strategic tool for the country’s energy transition and self-sufficiency.
In this context, Water Challenge presented its technological solution for the biogas and biomethane sector, focusing on a critical stage of the process: the treatment of digestate.
While biogas plants already enable the transformation of organic waste into renewable energy, helping reduce emissions and generate value for the territory, our technology goes one step further. We apply our patented Adiabatic Sonic Evaporation and Crystallization (ASE&C) process to treat the digestate efficiently and without chemicals, producing two valuable outputs: purified, reusable water and sterilized, dry green fertilizers ready to be used in agriculture.
In this way, we fully close the loop: from a single waste stream, we obtain energy, water, and nutrients, without discharges, odours, or transportation. This solution is fully aligned with the principles of the circular economy and with European objectives for sustainability and resource efficiency.
It was especially rewarding to share the space with companies, public authorities, biogas plant developers, and representatives of the agri-food sector. The shared commitment to accelerating the development of these technologies and communicating their real-world benefits confirms the great potential of biogas and biomethane in Spain.
We would like to thank AVEBIOM (Spanish Biomass Association) and the Renewable Gas Trade Fair for organising such an excellent edition and for giving us the opportunity to present our technological approach.
Our CEO, Susana García Fernández de Cañete, was interviewed during the congress to explain how ASE&C technology can transform the treatment of digestate with a disruptive, efficient, and fully sustainable solution. You can watch the full interview here.
